Galen Institute’s “Do No Harm” Petitions Delivered Today to Senators in Show of Opposition to Government Control Over Health CareMore than 10,000 names of people who signed the Galen Institute’s “Do No Harm” petition (www.DoNoHarmPetition.org) are being delivered today to the U.S. Senate in a show of opposition to government control over the health sector. “Support for this petition confirms what every poll shows,” stated Galen Institute President Grace-Marie Turner. “The public overwhelmingly opposes the efforts of Congress and the Obama administration to dramatically expand government control over health care. Political leaders need to listen to the American people, take a step back, and carefully consider proposals that will make health insurance coverage more affordable and improve quality.”

Galen Institute Releases Poll Showing Overwhelming Opposition to the Individual Mandate and Other Key Components of Congressional Health Reform ProposalThe Galen Institute today released new survey results showing overwhelming opposition to the individual mandate and other key components of health reform legislation Congress is considering. “These findings illustrate strong opposition to fundamental aspects of the bills moving through Congress,” said Galen Institute President Grace-Marie Turner. “People don’t want to be forced to buy insurance they can’t afford or that might not fit their needs, yet the proposals would slap a tax on them if they don’t. And people overwhelmingly oppose reducing seniors’ health benefits or raising taxes on the working and middle class in order to expand coverage to some of the uninsured, yet many in Congress continue to push exactly that.”

Galen Institute Launches New Health Reform WebsiteThe Galen Institute today is launching a new website – Health Reform Hub www.HealthReformHub.org – which will serve as a central access point for the latest news and information about market-based ideas for health reform. “The American people are focused as never before on the details of proposals to solve problems facing our health sector,” said Galen Institute President Grace-Marie Turner. “We have created the Health Reform Hub as a one-stop site for access to the latest news and analysis about the reform debate, particularly the patient-centered proposals that have received far too little attention in the current discussion. Our multi-media site also will provide new ways for people and policymakers to engage in the debate over policies that will dramatically affect the health care choices of every American.”
